How to Install a Glock 43 Slide Back Plate (5 Min)

Your Glock 43 rolled off the line as a lean, single-stack carry gun with a plain plastic back plate stuck on the rear of the slide — functional, forgettable, and identical to every other G43 on the range. Here's how to swap that factory plate for a custom laser-engraved one from 214 Engravings. No gunsmith, no permanent modification, no drill press. Just a few minutes and the right tool.

What you'll need

A gunsmith punch works best, but a small flat-head screwdriver or the tip of a spent brass case gets the job done too. You are not drilling, filing, or altering the slide in any way — the factory back plate rides off, your new 214 plate rides on. This process applies to the standard Glock 43 slide back plate footprint; it does not carry over to the G43X or G48 dual-spring slide assemblies, so make sure you're working with a true G43 before you start.

Step 1 — Clear the pistol, no exceptions

Remove the magazine. Lock the slide to the rear. Look into the chamber, then confirm empty with your finger — sight alone isn't enough. No magazine in the gun, no round anywhere near the chamber. This step doesn't get skipped, rushed, or done from memory.

Step 2 — Field strip the slide off the frame

Point the pistol in a safe direction and press the trigger to drop the striker. Retract the slide slightly, pull down on both slide-lock tabs, and ease the slide forward off the frame rails. Set the frame off to the side — you're working strictly on the slide from here.

Step 3 — Pull the factory plate

Flip the slide over so the rear is facing up. You'll see the factory plate holding a spring-loaded spacer sleeve in place under light tension. Press the sleeve inward with your punch, keep a thumb braced over the plate so the striker spring doesn't launch across the room, and walk the factory plate downward off the slide. Take your time on this one — the G43's compact slide means less room to work than a full-size gun, and that sleeve is still under spring pressure.

Step 4 — Seat your 214 plate

Set your new custom laser-engraved back plate against the rear grooves of the slide. Depress the spacer sleeve again, slide the plate upward until it clicks past the sleeve and sits fully flush against the slide. If it's rocking or sitting proud on one edge, it's not seated — stop and reset it before moving on.

Step 5 — Reassemble and run a function check

Return the slide to the frame and rack it several times by hand. With the pistol pointed in a safe direction, run a dry-fire function check. You're looking for a flush plate, a clean rack with no drag, and a positive trigger reset. That's the whole job — most folks are done in under five minutes, tools already put away.
